Media Room The homeowners sought to convert one bedroom of a large 6 bedroom Italianate Victorian into a library and media room. The centerpiece of the project became an 1870's-era solid walnut mantle, acquired at Old Bostonian in Dorchester, MA. Repeat History Restoration stripped 7 layers of paint off the mantle, repaired some damage, and applied a natural stain finish and polyurethane sealer to bring it back to its original glory. The hearth was completed with an imported Italian tile surround with a matching subway tile pattern and a natural gas insert. The project also included the construction of 2 ceiling-to-floor built-in bookcases in the style of the unique window casings of the home, and the installation of a 5:1 surround sound system built directly into the walls. Final touches included adding crown molding to the room and painting all walls a deep crimson red. |
